Fruit preserve Bilberry - with sweet, midnight blue bilberries from wild harvesting. The bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus) is a plant of the family (Ericaceae) with about 100-150 species. The most common variety used by Alpe Pragas is the wild bilberry "Vaccinium myrtillus". The fruits contain a lot of carotene, vitamin B6, vitamin C and magnesium. Due to the anthocyanins they contain they colour the mouth and the teeth blue when consumed. Anthocyanins are also known for their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

How do I recognise an Alpe Pragas Original?

What's the difference between a fruit preserve and a jam or marmalade?

By definition, a jam may contain no more than 45% fruit, while the term "marmalade" is reserved for products made from citrus fruits. A fruit preserve, on the other hand, contains at least 65% fruit, with considerably less sugar. This means that almost every variety in our The Original collection is, strictly speaking, a fruit preserve rather than a jam.

Does The Original only offer fruit preserves?

Not at all – The Original gives you our biggest choice of fruit preserves, but that's far from the whole story!
