The sour cherry, also known as (Prunus cerasus), is a plant species from the rose family.

Unlike the sweet cherry, it has glandless, harder leaves.

There are also small stipules at the base of the inflorescence. The acid content of sour cherries consists almost exclusively of malic acid. Cherries also have a high a high vitamin A content. The flavour of the sour cherry is sweet, delicate and aromatic.
